Call for Ignite Talks, workshops, posters, and the marketplace - Help shape the festival! 

The strategic alliance of the Rhine-Main Universities is hosting the third German “Open Science Festival”. The festival will take place on September 17 and 18, 2024, at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. You can actively participate with a workshop, Ignite Talk, poster, or a market booth. 

In workshops, you can develop ideas in the field of Open Science, discuss methods, and identify goals and challenges in order to initiate further development. Unconventional workshop ideas such as hackathons, escape rooms, etc. are welcome! Workshops should be geared toward about 30 participants.  

Applications, along with the following information, are to be submitted directly through this website by March 20, 2024: 

  • Event title 
  • Brief description of the workshop for the website in the language of the workshop (200-500 words) 
  • Additional information for the selection committee 
  • Time frame (90-120 minutes) 
  • Target group/level of knowledge required (beginner workshops are also welcome) 
  • Maximum number of participants 
  • Required material and technical equipment 
  • Workshop language (German or English) 
  • Person(s) responsible 

Share your successes and failures in the field of Open Science with the community in an Ignite Talk. You will have five minutes to tell your personal story, accompanied by 20 auto-advancing slides. The experience promises to be both challenging and enjoyable.The talk will be in English.

Your poster presents your research, a project, or a collaboration in the area of Open Science. It outlines the goals, challenges, and opportunities of the project and can help you network on site. The posters will be displayed during the festival and invite others to engage in discussion. In addition, you have the opportunity to present your poster in a three-minute “poster slam” on stage. The best poster presentation will receive an award during the closing event!

  • Brief description of the poster topic for the website, in English (200 words) 
  • Additional information for the selection committee 
  • Declaration of intent to present the poster during the “poster slam” or not 
  • Equipment required to present the poster during the festival 
  • Name of organization/research unit 
  • Contact person(s) 

Information on poster design: Poster size A0, must be brought to the festival by the presenter. 

You can present your organization, project, or event related to Open Science with a market booth. Your booth or your poster wall will be set up on two festival days and give you the opportunity to get in touch with festival participants.
